Rapid development of educational and training materials for the International Diabetes Federation
The Diabetes and Ramadan (DAR) International Alliance and the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), supported by an educational grant from a major pharmaceutical company.
Diabetes is a growing concern, affecting over 400 million people globally, and an increasing proportion of the world’s Muslim population. During the month of Ramadan, many Muslims fast during daylight hours. The impact of Ramadan fasting on diabetes is often poorly understood and managed by physicians, especially in Muslim-minority countries. There was a need for practical, evidence-based guidelines to assist healthcare professionals to help patients manage their diabetes during Ramadan fasting.
Our challenge was to rapidly create comprehensive, practical guidelines for healthcare professionals to support the management of diabetes in Muslim patients who fast during Ramadan.
The in-house team of writers at Aspire Scientific created a comprehensive booklet with guidelines for the management of diabetes during Ramadan fasting (http://www.idf.org/guidelines/diabetes-in-ramadan). The guidelines were delivered from start to finish in 8 weeks, and were hand-delivered to the client before the launch meeting held by the IDF/DAR in Dubai in April 2016. Our writers also created a detailed slide deck to introduce healthcare professionals and other stakeholders to the new guidelines at the launch meeting.
