The Publication Plan: educational news for medical publication professionals
The past decade has witnessed a transformation in attitudes and practices around clinical trial registration and reporting, data transparency, and industry–physician relationships. At Aspire Scientific, we not only strive to meet the highest ethical standards via adherence to Good Publication Practice and other key guidelines, but also try to encourage best practices among the wider professional community. In this respect, we run a freely accessible, central online educational news service for everyone interested in the development of medical publications: The Publication Plan.
Through our website (www.thepublicationplan.com), LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook, The Publication Plan shares the latest medical publications-related news, as well as providing other valuable updates and links to additional useful resources. So far in 2017, through our educational news service, we have provided updates on key changes in industry guidelines and recommendations including new data-sharing requirements from the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors, and the recent joint position statement on the role of professional medical writers from the American Medical Writers Association, European Medical Writers Association and International Society for Medical Publication Professionals. We’ve also covered big stories like the disappearance of Beall’s list of ‘predatory’ journals, and looked at future trends such as the use of artificial intelligence in the publishing process. To date this year, we have reported directly from industry meetings in Amsterdam, London and San Diego, on topics as diverse as the generation of real-world evidence and the evolving role of the publication professional.
