Philippa Flemming

Philippa is a co-owner and co-founder of Aspire Scientific. She received her PhD in Molecular Physiology from the University of Leeds and previously worked as an Innovation and Technology Manager for the UK National Health Service. Philippa has direct hands-on experience of our industry, having worked as a medical writer and editor. Amongst other duties, Philippa leads our HR function, researches and implements new directives for business growth and prosperity, and coordinates the development and roll-out of guidelines for employee evaluations, recruitment and promotion. Philippa also leads our growing initiatives relating to corporate and environmental responsibility.

Duncan Campbell

Duncan has over 10 years’ medical communications agency experience leading multiple large accounts with global pharmaceutical account teams. He has expertise in global strategic publication planning and delivery across a wide range of therapy areas, as well as an established history of developing and coordinating both traditional and multichannel scientific content. Sarah Stutfield

Emma received her PhD in parasitology from Keele University and subsequently spent seven years researching various aspects of malaria/vector biology at Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore), Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and Keele University. After leaving academia, Emma entered the world of medical communications and has developed into an excellent medical writer with expertise across multiple therapy areas. Emma has led a wide variety of medical communication initiatives including publications, publication planning, training materials, standalone meetings, and satellite symposia. Emma is a member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) and is a Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP).

Hannah Mace

Hannah is an experienced medical writer and scientist, having spent over a decade working in the pharmaceutical and medical communications industries. After completing her Master of Pharmacology degree at the University of Bath (having spent a year working at GlaxoSmithKline during this time) Hannah continued her research career at Pfizer, working in a number of therapeutic areas before specialising in the field of chronic pain. Hannah then took her passions for scientific education and communication into medical writing. A specialist in medical education, she has in-depth expertise in the development of primary manuscripts, eLearning, educational programmes and scientific meetings across multiple therapy areas. Emma McConnell

After receiving a Master of Pharmacy degree from Queen’s University Belfast, and then qualifying as a pharmacist, she went on to complete a PhD and post-doctoral fellowship at UCL. Emma developed her scientific writing skills during this time and authored a number of publications. Following several years as a research scientist at a leading pharmaceutical company, Emma moved into the field of medical communications. Working across a wide variety of therapy areas, Emma has led the development and delivery of a range of communication activities, including publications, training materials, patient materials, and scientific meetings. Emma is a member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) and is a Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP).

After completing a UCL-accredited PhD at Cancer Research UK’s Hertfordshire site and post-doctoral research at the Institute for Cancer Studies in Sheffield, she decided to focus on the editorial side of medical research and made the move into Medical Communications. Dawn has excellent writing, editing and project management skills and has delivered a broad range of medical communication and education materials across many therapy areas. In particular, she has extensive experience in delivering publication-related activities over the full product lifecycle. With a keen eye for detail, Dawn is committed to efficiently producing high-quality editorial materials that clearly and effectively achieve the client’s objectives. Jo Chapman

Jo is a PhD-educated scientist with extensive research experience encompassing 11 years in drug discovery. Following a post-doctoral position at University College London, Jo joined Arrow Therapeutics Ltd (acquired by AstraZeneca in 2007) and progressed through a number of roles, culminating in Head of Molecular Biology. She has knowledge of a wide variety of therapeutic areas including virology, cardiovascular disease and oncology. Jo has been delivering high quality work for Aspire Scientific for the past few years across a broad range of projects including manuscripts, slide kits and large educational documents. Caroline Greenwood

Caroline is an experienced medical writer. She received her BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Manchester and, browsing through the graduate career guide, stumbled across an advert for a trainee medical writer position. Thinking it sounded like the perfect option for someone who loved science and the English language, she applied, and was awarded a place on the training scheme. Caroline hasn’t looked back since. Over the past two decades, she has led a wide variety of medical communication projects including training materials, publications and publication planning, advisory boards, standalone meetings and satellite symposia. Caroline has acquired a wealth of knowledge across a variety of therapeutic areas during her career and enjoys applying her expertise and experience to deliver high-quality writing projects in a range of formats. Louise Niven

Jo Tang

Jo joined Aspire Scientific in late 2020, bringing with her more than 20 years of combined experience in medical communications and scientific/technical/medical (STM) book and journal publishing. As a medical editor she has been able to combine two of her longtime interests – language (communication) and science – believing that the language of science and medicine needs to be clear in order to facilitate understanding. Jo has supported non-profit, academic and commercial clients in multiple therapy areas, providing editorial oversight for a wide range of products and services, including publication plans, manuscripts, congress abstracts and posters, satellite symposia, advisory boards, slide kits, internal training and patient education materials, and digital media. She received her MA degree from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

Kristian Clausen

After gaining a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychobiology at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Master’s of Public Health at Boston University, Kristian worked as a health policy consultant in Washington, D.C. Robyn Foster

Robyn is an experienced medial writer across a variety of therapy areas. She received her BSc in Molecular Biology at the University of St Andrews, then undertook a PhD in Cancer Biology at the Centre for Cancer Research and Cell Biology at Queen’s University Belfast. Her research focused on the preclinical evaluation of a potential therapeutic target in glioblastoma. While writing her thesis, Robyn realised that she enjoyed scientific writing more than the practical aspect of her research, so decided to move into medical communications as a career. Since then, she has delivered a broad range of projects including publications, learning resources, training meetings, standalone meetings, and satellite symposia across several therapy areas. Josh Lilly

Josh has several years of experience in scientific writing both in the medical communications industry and during his time in academia. He received a first-class degree in Human Biology and a PhD in Leukaemia and Stem Cell Biology from the University of Birmingham. Debbie Sherwood

Beatrice Tyrrell

Beatrice completed her undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, specialising in Pathology. Subsequently, she undertook a DPhil in Infection, Immunology and Translational Medicine at the University of Oxford, investigating the therapeutic potential of iminosugars as broad-spectrum antiviral and immunomodulatory compounds. During her DPhil, Beatrice devoted much of her free time to science communication, founding the Oxford Hands-On Science society and writing and editing for her Departmental magazine. Beatrice gained valuable experience in medical writing as a member of Aspire Scientific’s academic internship programme, leading her to accept a full-time medical writing position upon completion of her DPhil. Beatrice is a member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP).

Alice Wareham

After completing an MSc in Medical and Molecular Microbiology at the University of Manchester, Alice began working as a research scientist at Public Health England (PHE) within the Novel and Dangerous Pathogens and Tuberculosis departments. Her particular area of interest was the immune response to tuberculosis and the identification of relevant biomarkers. During her time at PHE and in association with St George’s University, she gained a PhD. It was while writing her PhD thesis that Alice discovered she had a flair for scientific writing, a talent she decided to develop as a career by taking a full-time medical writing position at Aspire Scientific. Alice is a member of the International Society for Medical Publication Professionals (ISMPP) and is a Certified Medical Publication Professional (CMPP).
