Medical Editor


Key roles and responsibilities

  • With guidance from a more senior editor, review, copy edit, style, format and proofread a variety of medical writing deliverables, including (but not limited to):
    • Journal articles
    • Abstracts, posters and slide decks for scientific meetings
    • Scientific platforms
    • Meeting reports
    • Training slide decks
    • Other training materials.
  • Perform other editor tasks with guidance from a more senior editor, including:
    • Prepare manuscripts for submission to journals, ensuring adherence to each journal’s author guidelines and style.
      • Assist with submission of manuscripts to journals.
    • Prepare abstracts for submission to congresses and assist with abstract submission.
      • Provide editing support during development of subsequent posters/slide decks for presentation at congresses.
    • Check accuracy of statements and data in manuscripts, abstracts, slide decks and other deliverables against reference/source material, and prepare reference packs.
    • Style and format references using EndNote software (including amending EndNote styles).
    • Create and maintain PerfectIt styles, as required by account teams.
    • Amend figures and prepare simple figure redraws using software including PowerPoint and Adobe Illustrator.
    • Liaise with external design and digital teams during the development of figures and other deliverables.
  • Take responsibility for the management of your own work.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in life science, English, journalism or other relevant subject.
  • Experience of editing in the medical communications, pharmaceutical or healthcare sectors.
  • Proficiency in a variety of software including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, EndNote, and Adobe Illustrator.
  • Ability to self-manage workload.
  • Ability to provide suitable documentary evidence of their right to work in the UK.
