Senior Scientific Director
Key roles and responsibilities
- Support Executive Editorial Director and a business unit management team (BUMT) with leading/co-leading a large client account or more than one medium/large accounts and taking an active role in the success of one of the company’s BUMTs.
- Account leadership: Lead (or co-lead with a senior member of the Scientific Account Project Management (SAPM)) team and ensure the overall success of an account(s). Achieve this by taking (co-)accountability for the following tasks:
- Providing senior leadership of assigned account(s)
- Establishing Aspire as a valued strategic partner of the client(s)
- Monitoring and, if appropriate, acting on opportunities for organic growth of the account(s)
- Ensuring work delivered to the client(s) is of the highest quality and scientific integrity
- Ensuring the financial health of the account(s)
- Ensuring projects are delivered according to agreed timelines
- Ensuring projects are appropriately resourced and that, whenever possible, Aspire’s commitment to work–life balance is reflected in the day-to-day experiences of team members
- Mentoring and supporting the continued professional development of account team members
- Taking an active role in a Business Unit Management Team (BUMT): be responsible for the success of one of the company’s BUMTs, by:
- Being accountable for the success of individual assigned accounts and the team members within those accounts (these may not be accounts you are actively involved in)
- Mentoring and supporting account team leads
- Being responsible for providing regular updates to the BUMT on the account(s) and people that the SSD is accountable for
- Maintaining and prioritising prompt and open communication, as a key and senior conduit between account teams, the BUMT, and the MT
- Ensuring the company’s culture and values are embedded and maintained within the day-to-day running of the business unit
- Being responsible for team morale and engagement within the SSD’s assigned accounts, including engagement with company-wide initiatives
- Being accountable for ensuring that the financial targets for assigned accounts are met, and helping to ensure that the financial targets for other client accounts within the unit are met
Take on line-management responsibilities, providing expert guidance so that line reports fulfil their responsibilities and objectives and are supported in their professional development.
If needed/appropriate, lead or take a senior supporting role in a company workstream and take full or shared accountability for the success of the workstream.
Uphold and be a custodian of the company’s values. Consider how the company’s values can be cascaded to account teams/other teams and integrated into team goals/team member objectives.
Follow company procedures – and guide our team to follow the same procedures – with respect to administrative and project-related tasks. To include, but not limited to, daily completion of timesheets, adherence to editorial procedures, and timely and accurate file housekeeping.
Liaise with clients, healthcare professionals, contractors, and any other relevant third parties in a professional, courteous, and efficient manner – and ensure the rest of the team do the same.
Keep up to date – and help our team to keep up to date – with relevant industry guidelines including, but not limited to, Good Publication Practice and International Committee of Medical Journal Editors Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals.
